Project Emerald arose out of COVID-19 stay at home times. Owners within The Emerald bubble are allaying boredom and exercising by addressing projects that are ricocheting The Emerald Surfers Paradise maintenance plans forward and adding a 21st-century vibe to the grand old lady The Emerald is. is a photo record of progress and achievements, displaying works in the pipeline, and a place to make suggestions and offer help with resources and time.

Built in 1990 The Emerald has seen a lot happen in Surfers Paradise and had many visitors from around the world stay in the holiday apartments. Project Emerald has included research that has looked to the past, seeing the grand times that have taken place and reviving the atmosphere in a current context. The pontoon provides access from the Nerang River, allowing visitors to arrive by boat, jet ski, or kayak. Days of old saw jazz bands in the courtyard with white-clothed tables and sumptuous fares from multiple BBQ’s. The courtyard has undergone significant transformation – where a Mediterranean atmosphere was previously provided by murals, Mediterranean appeal has now been brought to life with modern, natural colours enhancing the richness of wonderful terracotta pieces and plants. The central fountain has been brought back to life, repaired and reinstated to former glory.

The lawn and garden have been reshaped, pruned and preened. Plantings include natives to attract local birdlife, inviting them to enjoy a sanctuary that includes a large terracotta bird bath. Against the backdrop of the great lawn, well-established palms and hedges new plants will add colour year-round. During COVID we have had a resurgence of butterflies, dragonflies and birds. Bird song trills all day long.

Stonework and timber dominate the driveway fence lines. By gently teasing out colours from the stone a harmonious entranceway now provides a sophisticated welcome. Carefully tucked away at the cul-de-sac end of Mallana St The Emerald is a hidden treasure, close to Surfers Paradise CBD but removed far enough to be quiet and alluring.

We welcome you to come to The Emerald Surfers Paradise, to share in all we are so proud of – have a fish from the pontoon or feed the swans, enjoy a swim in the lap pool parallel with the Nerang River, followed by a BBQ, and stay the night in an apartment proudly offering 270 degree views of the Gold Coast.
